My 6 Week Kick-Up Challenge!

I am HOPELESS at kick-ups! My 6 week challenge is to try and make it to TEN kick-ups in a row! If I manage this (refer to the video evidence provided for why this is an acceptable challenge for me), then I will increase the target amount! You can make the videos full screen if you'd like to see me embarrass myself in clearer view!

                                                                 Week 1 

Here it is, the starting point of my 6 Week Challenge! 

As you can see my skillset is somewhat questionable! 

Believe it or not, due to my appalling lack of co-ordination, it actually took quite a few attempts for me to get this far! Something in my brain doesn't communicate co-ordination very well! Even my director was so shocked at me managing to complete one kick-up that he ended the video rather swiftly! I thought it best to quit whilst I was ahead...

                                                       Week 2 

I didn't get to practice as much as I'd have hoped this week, so wasn't feeling too confident! I temporarily borrowed a lighter ball from the PE department to see if that helped, but somehow I was even worse with that! So, I returned to using my original football and as you can see, there is a slight improvement here! Unfortunately, there is another very abrupt ending to the video as disaster almost struck! I don't think I hide my fear very well at all! 

I've also realised that I'm looking more and more like I'm dancing along to the can-can rather than kick-ups...must try harder!

                                              Week 3 

A freezing cold, wet and windy Saturday afternoon seemed like the perfect combination for my kick-up challenge to recommence! Three words - A muddy mess! This was the final attempt after about an hour of recordings and me no longer being able to feel my hands! As you can see (and hear!) I was getting frustrated towards the end and decided to call it a day! I'm giving myself an A* for effort though - look at how muddy I was!

I'm now half way through the 6 week challenge and I'm almost half way to my aim of 10 kick-ups! I definitely have some work to do! Can I do it?

                                                 Week 4

Well...I thought last week was cold! I genuinely couldn't feel my toes during this week's recording! A bit of controversy over the amount of kick-ups I actually completed this week. Annoyingly, I think it could have been more - but I appear to completely panic when the ball comes close to me at a greater height than I expected! Not quite professional just yet it seems!

Over half way through the challenge now and I'm certainly feeling doubtful that I'll make it to ten kick-ups! But I'm persevering!

                                                            Week 5

Well week 5 has arrived and you may be able to tell I am rather excited with my progress this week - hard work pays off! 

Also, I'm pretty sure I scared some children whose innocent playground playing was interrupted by some far too outlandish celebrating!

At least it's looking a little bit more like a hill rather than a mountain to climb now!

                                                   Final Week!

The final week has arrived and despite a reasonable amount of time spent on the challenge this week, I seem to be at a standstill!

I'm not feeling completely disheartened though, as when I look back on that Week 1 video, it's definitely uplifting to see the progress made along the way!

Coming at some point in 2021...I will have mastered 10 kick-ups! Mark my words!
